Quick Ways to Earn Money in Amsterdam

There are plenty of part-time jobs available in Amsterdam, but sometimes we just need a quick and easy way to earn a few extra euros, especially if you don’t want to commit to working 32+ hours a month. Even though these “hacks” are not enough for DUO requirements, they are still fun, flexible, and accessible ways to make some extra money as a student.

#1 Charly Cares
Charly Cares is a babysitting app where you can accept one-time babysitting gigs or even long-term jobs. One of the main reasons I personally like and use Charly Cares is because the families on the app are verified and genuinely kind people, which makes the experience feel much safer and more reliable.
Although you do need verified babysitting experiences before being accepted onto the platform, you are able to set your own hourly rate and often get your travel expenses reimbursed as well, which is definitely a big plus in Amsterdam.
#2 Participating in Research Studies
Another easy way to earn money is by participating in university research studies. Universities regularly post paid studies that students can sign up for, including Vrije University Amsterdam and University of Amsterdam.
Some studies have specific requirements, such as age, gender, or owning certain devices, but many are very accessible and surprisingly interesting to participate in. Compensation can range anywhere from 5 Euro to 100 Euro depending on the length and complexity of the study.
For example, I recently saw a study that only required participants to own an Android phone and paid up to 94 Euro. While some studies can take a few hours to complete, the payment usually reflects the amount of time required.
Both universities have their own portals where students can find available studies.
For VU, you can find them here:
#3 Selling Clothes on Vinted
Even though Amsterdam shops and boutiques are very tempting to indulge in, a quick way to earn instead of spending is selling old clothes on Vinted. Not only is this low effort but also an easy way to give back to the planet in its own way by giving your clothes a second life instead of throwing them away.
The best part about Vinted is that almost everyone has clothes sitting in the back of their closet that they no longer wear. Whether it is old jeans, jackets, shoes, or even accessories, there is a surprisingly large market for second-hand fashion, especially in Amsterdam where vintage and sustainable shopping are very popular.
Uploading items only takes a few minutes, and if you take good pictures and price things reasonably, selling can happen much faster than expected. Personally, I find it one of the easiest ways to make extra money without having to commit to fixed working hours or leaving the house.
Overall, making extra money in Amsterdam does not always have to mean committing to a demanding part-time job. Whether it is babysitting through Charly Cares, participating in university research studies, or selling old clothes on Vinted, there are plenty of flexible and accessible ways for students to earn a few extra euros. Especially in a city as expensive as Amsterdam, small side hustles can quickly make a big difference.
